Meet The Fishery Manager

 Malcolm Hunt - Fishery Manager

My interest in fishing started when I was a child and has stayed with me ever since. My career started working part time on a trout fishery in Dorset and attending Sparsholt College in Hampshire. I have great experience in all aspects of fish farming and fishery management including salmon farming in Scotland.
My passion has always been in trout fishery management; working at this fine location is a bonus.  At home I enjoy keeping Koi Carp, Golf, Shooting and of course Fishing!  Feel free to drop me a line on my email address below.

March Mayhem
Hello Everyone,

Hope you are all enjoying the warm weather, it's good to see the sun at last....

It's been all go at the fishery since my last blog, since then we've made huge progress in getting the river ready for April 1st and are continuing with our improvements. I even found time to plant some blubs - let's hope they soon make an appearance eh?

March has started well again with many a fine trout failing to escape including those caught by Mr M Holmes with his 9lb 4oz & a 8lb 4oz, Mr G Chapple with a 10lb 6oz and Mr E Soper with his 5lb, 5lb, 4lb 4oz & 2lb 8oz. I think fishing must come naturally to the Soper family!! (See Fish of the Month - Feb 2009).

This beautiful 13lb Rainbow was caught by Jayne Lusk.

Well Done Jayne.

So far this month we have had some stunning hatches and dry flies are proving to get great results including an 8lb + being taken on a Klinkhammer.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

Tight Lines

February Fun…

Hello Everyone,

February is turning out to be a great month despite the snow. Only myself and a few hardcore anglers were brave enough to venture out during the arctic weather. Although a tad chilly has nice was it to finally see some of the good old fashioned white stuff!!

Now with the weather a touch warmer the fish are on the move including an 11lb + caught by Mr. M Griffiths and a 7lb & 8lb caught by Mr. P Waluga, along with many other good sized fish.

I am pleased to announce that I am working towards getting the stretch of river along side the fishery ready for the Brown Trout season come April 1st.

Hope to see you all soon,

Malcolm

Fish of the Month - Winner!

Hello fellow anglers.

With Christmas looming ever closer and the colder days becoming more prominent, you would expect the fishing to be slowing down, but not here. The fishing has been superb with fish on certain days still taking DRIES, who could ask for more.  November saw 13 large fish, with the average stock size nearing the 3lbs at a catch rate of 3.2 fish/angler.

Congratulations to Mr D Brandon on becoming our first Fish of the month competition winner with a 12lb 0oz.  The 13lb 9oz fish was unfortunately not photographed or signed in.

Just thought you might like to see my 3 year old nephew Edward, calling in the latest fishing review, or at least that’s what he told me he was doing.  What do you think he’s saying??

We will have him out fishing his dad in no time.

Tight Lines, Malcolm.

At long last…

Manningford regular Dave now has a personal best after finally catching this fabulous 12lb rainbow, nicknamed red stripe. This illusive fish has remained within the lake since Sept. After a few months of trying the lucky cast come on Sunday, after he’d already broken one rod!!.  Congratulations.

Latest News.

Hello again

Well we have had a very interesting week with the weather, from having constant drizzle to fantastic autumnal sunny days like today. With the recent rain behind us the water is starting to return to normal clarity, so spotting your next catch is not a problem. After some time spent cutting the weed around the lodge end of the lake plenty of good fish can be seen close in , so keep your eyes peeled.

I am very pleased to announce that on the 3rd January 2009 we will be holding an open day with Sonik.  Further details will follow shortly.    www.soniksports.com

Just as a reminder we are closed on Saturday 22nd November for a private event.

Tight Lines, Malcolm

04 November

And now for something completely different.
Hello again,

Well we can now offer a block of 10 tickets at a reduced rate of 10% off normal ticket prices (2 fish & 4 fish).
Just in time for Christmas (oops said the C word) making them a useful gift.

With the ever changing weather patterns the lake has been going into Autumn mode, from the falling of the leaves, to the dying back of the weed, as well as the beautiful crisp mornings when the lake starts to come alive to the inevitable changes in flies being used. It pains me to say it but its upon us again, the dreaded lure season.

On a personal note I would like to thank everyone for their kind comments and support for the fishery and myself, in our effort to make manningford an outstanding venue. Its a pleasure to look after such a place.
So wrap up warm and come give us a visit, look forward to seeing you all soon.    Malcolm
